The history of racism in this country has been a record of a steady improvement in eliminating this scourge. Over 600,000 Americans died in the Civil War in part to eliminate slavery. Nevertheless, while slavery was definitively abolished after 1865 with the adoption of the 14th amendment, discrimination against people with black skins was alive and well in the former states of the Confederacy. This discrimination was codified in the form of Jim Crow laws. Attempts to abolish these laws through federal legislation were blocked in the Senate by filibusters from the Democrat Senators from the Southern states even though Republican Senators were all in favor for them. Thanks to the Supreme Court in Brown vs. The Board of Education, steady progress was made when the Presidents of both parties weighed in against segregation.
When John Kennedy picked Lyndon Johnson from Texas, who had voted against every civil rights bill before 1960, Johnson was forced to reverse course and suddenly become a champion of civil rights. Even though Barry Goldwater had voted for every civil rights bill before 1964, the 1964 version contained a title that used the infamous interstate commerce clause to force private property owners serving the public to allow people of all races onto their property. Even though Goldwater thought discrimination based on race should be abolished, he could not vote for the bill with this title in it. With that vote and the following presidential race of 1964 of Johnson versus Goldwater, a massive shift in American politics began. The solid Democratic South went Republican and black Americans went from solidly Republican to solid Democrat.
This trade off allowed the Republicans to win most of the presidential elections after 1964 because most of the southern states were suddenly voting Republican in presidential races. It was at this point that the media successfully tagged the Republicans with being racist. In spite of the fact that it was a Republican president who won the Civil War and Republicans who had always championed civil rights and primarily still did other than for the die-hard segregationists in Congress. By 2000, racism against blacks was a big no-no just about everywhere in America. It was clear that the vast majority of white Americans were totally opposed to racism against black Americans.
Still this troubled past of whites versus blacks bothered most whites because they knew that over most of the history of America, the blacks had gotten a raw deal. These whites decided to make clear once and for all that racism was a thing of the past and voted for Barack Obama to become President. They were so determined to prove this that they overlooked that this particular black was sorely lacking in credentials to run the government and that he had some truly alarming past associations with some really unsavory characters. Once this was accomplished, the whites relaxed and waited for a post-racial American utopia to settle in.
Whites were already somewhat annoyed at affirmative action programs that favored blacks over whites but given the legitimate gripes that blacks had over their previous treatment, went along with it as a form of reparations. Now that there was a black president, whites felt that these affirmative action programs would be phased out as no longer necessary. Needless to say they also expected blacks to stop playing the victim role. Alas and alack, what the whites got was the exact opposite. They discovered that they had just elected a black man whose was the most racist president in the last 100 years only now he was clearly prejudiced against whites and had plans to stick it to those gullible whites right from the get go. It was soon apparent that Reverend Jeremiah Wright's anti-white and anti-American sermons had found fertile ground in the mind of one Barack Obama.
He began by selecting an avowed racist as his attorney general and populating the upper echelons of the Justice Department with black apologists whether their skin color was black or not. Thus it was not surprising that this new Justice Department dismissed most of the charges against new black panther party members in the most clear cut voter intimidation case since 1970, only this time black intimidation of whites. From there on it was all downhill. When heavily black populated New Orleans was flooded and the Bush Administration was not johnny on the spot with a massive help effort, all hell broke loose. But when a white populated Nashville was flooded minimal help was provided and nary a peep was heard about that.
Now we have arrived at a point where any criticism of the Obama administration is immediately branded as racist even when blacks are the ones doing the criticism since they are airily dismissed as "Uncle Tom" blacks. It is now totally taboo to use the N word to describe a black, but calling white folks a "cracker" is a-okay. A cracker was originally used to describe a white person who lives in Florida's panhandle. Now it is the equivalent C-word to derogatorily describe a white person. We have now reached a point where we hear some blacks saying they should kill cracker babies and that it is the black people's time to stick it to the whites when thanks to Attorney General Holder they no they will never be prosecuted for hate crimes.
Now we have the NAACP folks trying to brand tea party members as racists which is a case the black kettle calling a pro-black pot pro-white. Of course, in all of this, the mass media has aided and abetted this scenario in the extreme. We believe that black Americans, from the White House on down to the ghettos doing this, do so to their great peril. The Democrats have gone out of their way to declare themselves the champions of the blacks (although in fact only since 1964) and a good part of the backlash they are getting in the polls is caused by their anti-white bias.
Black Americans are only 1 in 8 of America's population and whatever benefits they get for being Americans is due to the white Americans' tolerance. When blacks become racists against whites, they are literally biting the hand that feeds them. When Democrats tolerate such racist behavior on the part of blacks they are asking for a massive repudiation in the November election. According to public opinion polls, that is exactly what is in store for them. We believe the public opinion polls are understating the white backlash because no white person wants to be thought a racist. The NAACP resolution against the tea party might just have been the tipping point that will turn the 2010 election into a repeat of not 1994 but 1938 instead.

What? You thought that the 2008 Presidential Election proved that America is not a racist country when we elected a black President when only one out of eight Americans are black? On the contrary, that election proved we are very much a racist country. Let's take a look at why Obama got elected. Was it because of his sterling record of accomplishment and his clear abilities to lead? That question answers itself because his resume would fit on the back of a postage stamp. Was it because he showed a knack for picking the right people to give him advice? A quick look at his choice of mentors like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and Tony Recko refutes that notion. He has continued showing a poor choice in choosing his associates as his various czars bear witness.
Then look at what people seemed to admire in him. His rhetorical abilities to read a good speech and to pick good speechwriters might be a reasonable choice. Was that enough to pick him to be the most powerful man in the world? Come on, people, let's face it, he was picked because of the color of his skin and just about nothing else because there was nothing there other than that. Picking on or choosing people based on their skin color is a racist act. That is what an large amount of the American electorate did and that makes this a racist country.
Now to be sure about 30% of the voters would vote for the donkey if the Democrats ran it but what about the other 23%? Yes, some of them fell for the hope and change gambit because Obama is the quintessential conman. Yes, some people voted not for Obama but against McCain and/or Palin. None of these can explain the entire 23%. Let's look at which part of the electorate that voted for Obama who usually do not bother to vote based on historical trends. The clear answer is the blacks and the under 30 group. They turned out in droves for Obama. Why did they suddenly do that? It is hard to come up with any other explanation but the color of Obama's skin.
Now that is not to say that most of these folks had other motives besides just the color of his skin. White guilt about this country ever condoning slavery comes to mind. Perhaps some thought that doing this would prove that America is not a racist country when it had the exact opposite effect. Perhaps others just like supporting the "disadvantaged" people in this country. None of these motives disguise the fact that they made a racist tinged decision. This was what could be rightly called the ultimate affirmative action. The fact that affirmative action is reverse racism does not make it any less racist.
Let's face facts: both Obama and his wife have been affirmative action bonus babies their entire lives. They have had everything handed to them on a silver platter primarily because of the color of their skin. Who paid for their expensive college education at top flight schools? It certainly was not them. Did they get passing grades in school based on their merit or was the color of their skin factored in? Perhaps this is why Obama's college records are sealed? Did they get jobs because they were the best qualified candidates or because they were filling a racial quota? Who knows, but the suspicion remains based on their attitudes. Like most people who get something they do not deserve, they resent it. This might explain why neither of them seems to be either grateful for living here or being proud of their country.
I am well aware that this little opinion piece is going to get me called a racist, but somebody had to say it and I just did. It will not be the first time nor will it be the last time. Over thirty-five years ago, four U. S. Senators stood on the capitol steps and told the assembled media that I was plainly a racist. Why did Senators Ted Kennedy, Birch Bayh, Phil Hardt and Alan Cranston do that? It was because I refused to buckle to the demands of Cesar Chavez and his gang of thugs to help them recall the Governor of Arizona. That led to an FBI investigation that showed no evidence of that but that part never got publicized unlike the attack on me personally. Still I will be in the good company of the town hall protesters and the tea party folks who also got called racists without any evidence to support it other than a few signs held up by people who were not even part of the protest.
Of course, calling Republicans racists is pretty much par for the course and has been ever since 1964 when it was applied to Barry Goldwater and his supporters like me. You did not hear Republicans called racists prior to that because the blatant racists were the Southern Democrats who voted against every piece of civil rights legislation ever proposed while the Republicans were by and large supporting them. This certainly included Lyndon Baines Johnson prior to 1960 but you never heard a peep about that because those real racists were all Democrats. They can even be members of the Klu Klux Klan and still be elected to the U. S. Senate. This double standard about racism has been with us for over 55 years now and is still going strong.
2008 and 2009 Elections Compared
It seems appropriate to take a look at what happened one year ago. Based on all previous trends in elections, McCain should have won in a landslide 310 to 228 electoral votes. Obviously, that is not happened and the question is why? From a distance of one year after the fact, the answer is now clear. Historically minorities and the under 30 age groups have a very poor record of turning out to vote assuming they are even registered to vote in the first place. It was clear that black voters were going to turn out in record numbers to vote for a black candidate. There was no reason to assume that Hispanics would do that or that young people would bother to vote. However they did do just that and that made a crucial difference in the battleground states. Thus the Democrat turnout (always heavily supported by minorities) reached record proportions.
Still that might have not made the difference in states like North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana if it were not for the Republicans turning out lower than normal. Likewise, many Republicans actually voted for Obama in the interests of proving that America's abysmal racial record was a thing of the past. In this they were disappointed because the matter of race is now more of an issue than it has been since the days of Martin Luther King. Finally a lot of Republicans stayed home because McCain was too liberal or too conservative depending upon the state the voter resided in.
At this point, this is all ancient history so why care? The question is whether the 2008 election was a total upheaval or merely a one time anomaly. The elections on Tuesday provide us with an answer to this crucial question. It was a one time anomaly since the partisan turnout on Tuesday returned to historical norms. The minorities and the young folks went back to not caring much any more about who wins elections. The result was not only Virginia voted Republican but even New Jersey did which it seldom does. This was caused by the independents switching from going 2 to 1 for Obama to going 2 to 1 for Republicans.
What does this mean for 2010? In Virginia, the Republicans carried 9 out of 11 congressional districts on Tuesday. Right now there are six Democrat congressman from Virginia and only five Republicans. Unless things change, there will be 9 Republican congressman and only 2 Democrats from Virginia after the 2010 election. It seems safe to predict that the Democrats will lose virtually all of the seats they gained in the 2006 and 2008 elections. Is America really ready for Barack Obama?
I have to admit that I watch this race a little bit from the sidelines – I'm not an American citizen, but long time resident.
When I first heard that Senator Obama is running for President, I immediately asked my wife (she is American):
"Do you think that America is really ready for an African American President?"
She replied: "I think so. Why?"
I said: "Well from where I come from, ethnic groups are always rooting for their fellow people. The Turks root for the Turks, the Serbs for the Serbs, the Albanians for Albanians etc... and that's even true for many of the second or third generation immigrants back home.
I don't think that in my home country you will see a President from any of these second or third generation immigrant families any time soon.
Not that they would not try to run, but they represent a minority and as long people in general would have a feeling that these candidates would be biased towards their own ethnic group, they of course would not vote for such a person.
From what I can see here in America, there is a greater openness towards minorities, but there is still a clear division between African Americans, Asian, Hispanic and Caucasians.
As African Americans and Hispanics always point out that the White government is rooting more for white people, what should make us believe that an African American candidate would not root more for the African American community. With 68% of white folks in America it's hard to make a case for a candidate who possibly is biased towards a smaller minority."
I know Barack Obama always highlights that he is lucky about his white and black heritage, but record shows that he rooted for African Americans and African Americans root for him. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Race is hard to transcend. It is natural that you root for those who you feel most connected with.
Barack Obama might still able to win the election, if he gets all the minority votes, liberal votes and many white folks stay home.
But even if he wins he will have a hard time to move in large steps. If he disenfranchises white folks, he has 2/3 of the population against him. (It's not comparable to when a white government is doing something that disenfranchises African Americans, after all African Americans are only 12% of the population.)
The Washington Post said in 1998 in the Myth of the Melting Pot:
"More often than not, the neighborhoods where Americans live, the politicians and propositions they vote for, the cultures they immerse themselves in, the friends and spouses they have, the churches and schools they attend, and the way they view themselves are defined by ethnicity. The question is whether, in the midst of such change, there is also enough glue to hold Americans together."
Even though America has become a great nation due to the influence of all different cultures and races, the great American melting pot has not turned this country into one unified, unbiased nation.
